Jammin' for Jesus

April 25, 2019

On March 14th, HCA hosted the third Terrific Kids and Jammin’ for Jesus Chapel service of the school year. Once every nine weeks, students in grades K-5 are given the opportunity to sign up and share the special talents God has given them.  This particular celebration featured fourteen talented students in ten different acts ranging from dances, to piano solos, to vocal performances. For fifth graders Lexi Sawvel and Lily Powell this would be their final Jammin’ for Jesus performance. Next year, they will move on as sixth graders where new and different opportunities will open up for them; however, they will miss these special chapel services that they’ve grown accustomed to over the last six years. Lily shared, "No one can explain the breathtaking feeling of walking offstage and having not just an audience of friends clapping for you, but a family.  My HCA lower school family helped me understand that I shouldn't be afraid to sing for the Lord. I will miss them exceedingly, but I will never forget my years in lower school. The Bible teaches, ‘For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.’ 2 Timothy 1:7.”

Lexi echoed Lily’s words saying, "The feeling of singing and performing in front of my friends is indescribable!  I think that God's plan for me is to perform and sing and dance on stage. These chapel performances have prepared me for upcoming opportunities by showing me what it's like to speak and perform on stage in front of friends.  I'm going to miss lower school chapels because they are a big part of my childhood school memories! Proverbs 3:6 says, ‘Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.’”
